As soon as the person who made the Will (the Testator) passes away, the Executor(s) named in the Will takes on important responsibilities. This role can be demanding, especially during a time of grief, but we're here to help lighten the load.
The Executor's duties begin immediately. Key early steps include securing the deceased's property (e.g., changing locks, switching off utilities), ensuring assets are insured, and arranging the funeral in consultation with the family.
Next, assess all assets and liabilities to get a clear picture of the estate. This involves valuing property, bank accounts, investments, and debts to determine the full scope.

Calculate any Inheritance Tax (IHT) liability, complete the necessary forms, agree with HMRC, and arrange payment. Timely handling here is crucial to avoid delays.
Apply for the Grant of Probate (or Letters of Administration if no Will), which gives legal authority to manage and distribute the estate. We support you every step of the way.
Once the Grant is obtained, call in assets, pay outstanding debts and liabilities, prepare final estate accounts, and distribute to beneficiaries as per the Will. If the role feels overwhelming, our team can step in to handle it all.
