What is a Lasting Power of Attorney?

These are documents that enable you to give legal authority to a person or persons you trust, called Attorneys, to manage your affairs for you or make decisions on your behalf, when you are not in a position to do so yourself, for example following an accident, stroke or the onset of dementia.

Property & Financial Affairs LPA

This type of LPA allows your Attorneys to handle your financial matters, such as drawing your pension, paying bills, or selling property on your behalf.

  • Manage bank accounts and investments
  • Handle property sales or purchases
  • Pay for care or daily expenses

Health & Welfare LPA

This LPA covers decisions related to your health and personal welfare, such as the type of care you receive. It can only be used once you lose mental capacity.

  • Choose medical treatments
  • Decide on living arrangements
  • Consent to or refuse care options

Registration with the Office of the Public Guardian

Both types of LPA must be registered by the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) before your Attorneys can use them. We guide you through the entire process, including form preparation and submission.

OPG fees apply and are payable directly to them; our service includes full support for registration.

Why consider an LPA now?

Although we all tend to think of Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney as useful for later life, it’s important to think what would happen now if you were unfortunate enough to have an accident or serious illness. LPAs ensure your trusted people can step in smoothly, at any age.

Our simple process

  1. Discuss your needs and appoint suitable Attorneys
  2. Prepare the LPA forms with your preferences and instructions
  3. We act as certificate provider if appropriate
  4. Guide signing, witnessing, and OPG registration
